Dear Fellow Employees:
As we enter the last few weeks of this school year, I want to thank all of you for your efforts throughout the year. We've had some great academic and extracurricular successes and some fortunate outcomes with transportation and other safety issues, all because of your diligence in caring for our students.
The Wakulla County School District was once again recognized when on April 12 we were visited by the First Lady of Florida, Columba Bush. She shared her dedication toward alcohol and drug abuse education with Crawfordville Elementary School fifth graders. They participated in an interactive assembly and a True/False fact game and met with her in a smaller setting to tell her about the SAVE (Substance Abuse and Violence Education) program that all Wakulla County fifth graders participated in, and about their SAVE graduation on April 19.
Congratulations to Susan Brazier, the new Shadeville Elementary School principal for 2005-06, as current principal Karen Wells moves to her new role as a director at the Wakulla County School Board office.
Thanks to all the participants in the selection of the new Reading and Math software for grades K-5. We are excited about outfitting the elementary technology labs with new computers and new software this summer. Both middle schools and the high school were equipped with new reading labs for their struggling readers during this school year.
Waiting for the Florida Legislature to wrap up in May, we will then be tackling such issues as implementing the Summer 2006 Voluntary Pre-Kindergarten program, the Middle Grades Reform Act, and a district-wide Reading Plan to help our students succeed at every level of their education. Our many end-of-the-year award days, graduations and celebrations remind me that we all are involved in the accomplishments of our students as they file onto Wakulla High School's Reynolds Field on May 20. Thank you for the part you play in our students' lives.
Have a safe and restful summer.
Sincerely,
David Miller, Superintendent
