Our February meeting will be on Valentine's Day at the Public Library, 7:30 PM, in the newly completed meeting room.  We're looking forward to appropriate (Valentine) refreshments and an interesting program.
Our Franklin County friends of the Camp Gordon Johnston Museum in Carrabelle will be here to give a report on their museum's progress and their plans for a Gala Dance in March.  Remember, Camp Gordon Johnston provided training for U. S. troops in amphibious warfare during WWII but also brought many jobs to our area as well as young men who returned to become part of our families.

Our explosive growth in the county is causing great distress for those of us who are trying to save the history of our county.  We must make plans and take action posthaste to save representative old buildings, old tools, implements and other artifacts indicative of the lives of our forebears before all disappears into the dust of development and mist of obscurity.  With land clearing comes the pressure of locating the missing cemeteries and cleaning the abandoned and neglected cemeteries.  Our cemetery committee is working diligently to record all known graves in the county but we need helping hands!  We are scheduling workdays and places for those willing to help.

Planned dates for cleaning two cemeteries, Richardson and Wakulla, are February 18, March 4, 18 and 25.  Workers need to bring their own tools, (and refreshments).  We usually work 3 to 4 hours in the morning.  If you're not up to the physical work, we need tombstone inscriptions copied for certain small cemeteries.  We will tell you where and how!  Please call me at (850)926-7405, after February 10 if you can help.

Looking forward to seeing you February 14 when we will tell you of an exciting local field trip coming up on the 25th plus some door prizes for attendance!
