Criminal Justice Course at Wakulla High School
Wakulla County High School Teacher Lindsey Evans, who teaches the Criminal Justice Course at Wakulla High School, recently met with Sgt. Fred Nichols of the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office. Miss Evans asked Sgt. Fred Nichols if it would be possible for students to participate in the Sheriff’s Office Firearms Safety Course and the Introduction to Firearms Course taught by Sgt. Fred Nichols and Deputy Ed Tyre. Sgt. Fred Nichols asked Miss Evans to inquire about the courses through the School Administrators and Parents before they took it any further, and approval was given.
{sidebar id=1}Miss Evans, along with her students from the Criminal Justice Course, met with Sgt. Fred Nichols at the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Training Center/Range on October 13, 2008, located in Otter Creek. The class began at 7:00 a.m. and ended at 9:00 a.m. The class consisted of two courses, the Firearms Safety Course and the Introduction to Firearms Course. After the two classes were completed, the students were allowed to fire the guns at the range. The guns students fired were under the Direction of Sgt. Fred Nichols. The guns were the .45 caliber handgun, 9 mm handgun, a 12-gauge shotgun and a .223 caliber AR15 Rifle. The students shot at paper silhouette targets like the one displayed in the photo. Sheriff David Harvey praised Miss Evans and the students for passing the firearms safety courses. Due to the increased awareness of Firearm Safety, accidents have steadily declined in the United States.
