Wakulla Guards to Host Annual Confederate Memorial Celebration April 21

logo 125The “Wakulla Guards”, Camp 742 of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, Florida Division will observe their annual Confederate Memorial celebration in Wakulla County by holding a small remembrance ceremony Saturday, April 21, 2012 at 9am at Crawfordville's Hudson Park.

Following the service, the members of the Wakulla Guards, the Order of Confederate Rose Florida Society Mary C. Gwaltney Chapter 18 and United Daughters of the Confederacy R. Don McLeod Chapter 2469 will visit the cemeteries and place Confederate flags at the graves of the ‘soldiers in grey’ buried throughout the county.

The observance is marked every year to pay homage to the memory of the Confederate soldiers and to assure future generations remember the significance of their deeds and sacrifices.  Wakulla County is the final resting place for a number of Confederate soldiers - 143 are known.

The Wakulla Guards would like to invite any and all members and supporters to join them at the Confederate memorial at Hudson Park to once again show their respect for the brave Southern heroes that paid the ultimate price in defense of Dixie.
