Written by Keith Blackmar, Public Information Officer, WCSO Tuesday, 03 April 2012 13:05
Wakulla County Sheriff Donnie Crum presented Johnny B. Ross, Jr. of Crawfordville with a plaque Tuesday, April 3, 2012 honoring him for his honesty in returning a tourist’s lost wallet and fanny pack on March 20.
Andre Lamontague and several friends from Quebec were traveling through Wakulla County from Peninsular Florida on their way to Panama City when he realized he left his fanny pack on the top of the gasoline pump.
Lamontague returned to Wakulla County and discovered that Ross found the fanny pack and contents and turned them into the sheriff’s office.
“I lost my wallet last year and although it didn’t have everything in it when it was returned, I was happy to get it back,” said Ross. “It was just the right thing to do. I have to be able to look at myself in the mirror each day.”
Lamontague sent Ross the following personalized e-mail thanking him for returning the wallet and the e-mail was presented to Ross when he received his plaque:
"In life, we might do good or bad. We can be positive or negative, but if we try to do the right thing and be positive, sooner or later it will always come back to you in different ways.
I was very fortunate to have you (honest guy) find my wallet. I wish you the best in life to you and your family. I appreciate very much your gesture!"
GOD BLESS YOU,
Andre
“I know that I would want someone to do the same thing for me,” said Ross, who added that he wasn’t expecting any publicity over his good deed.
“This is in recognition for doing the right thing and thank you for your honesty,” said Sheriff Donnie Crum. “It really gave the Canadians the true impression of the many good people we have living in Wakulla County. Thank you, Johnny B.”
