Written by Wakulla High School Tuesday, 27 March 2012 09:02
Florida has revamped its Bright Futures scholarship program. There are three major scholarships that provide for tuition and fees ranging from 75% to 100% plus a stipend.
The main components are listed below. Contact a Wakulla High School guidance counselor at 926-7125 for specific details or visit the Bright Futures web site at http://www.floridastudentfinancialaid.org/SSFAD/bf/.
***Seniors wishing to apply for Bright Futures may do so after December 1, 2011. Applications MUST be completed by graduation. All Seniors are Urged to Apply!
***Community Service Hours must be pre-approved. Pick up forms in Guidance. Your community service hours must be turned into Guidance before graduation. (New requirements for 2011-2012; see below.)
***SB2150 – Senate Conforming Bill: Requires all Bright Futures students to file a FAFSA prior to receiving funding in the 2011-12 academic year. The Florida Department of Education (FDOE), OSFA will continue to determine the student’s academic eligibility for a Florida Bright Futures Scholarship. The postsecondary institution will determine (along with residency and citizenship), whether or not the student has submitted his annual FAFSA before funding Bright Futures. The FAFSA must be complete and error-free, but does not have to indicate financial need.
