Denny “Buddy” Tomaini was honored at the January17, 2012 Wakulla County School Board meeting for his lifetime career of making a difference in the lives of Wakulla County students as a teacher, coach, Athletic Director, and Dean of Students.

A “Proclamation of Recognition” noted his accomplishments and officially named the Wakulla High School wrestling facility “The Buddy Tomaini Wrestling Room.”

“Buddy Tomaini is considered the catalyst for shaping wrestling programs in the entire Big Bend of Florida," stated Superintendent David Miller.  "He has positively influenced untold students and other coaches.”

The “Proclamation of Recognition” cited such accomplishments as starting the first wrestling program at Wakulla High School in 1976.  Tomaini went on to win four District Championships in seven years and to coach the first individual State Champion at Wakulla High School.

Coach Tomaini was also issued the “Lifetime Achievement Award for Athletic Directors” by the Florida High School Athletic Association.

Friends, former students, and family, including his wife Janice, attended to honor him at the School Board recognition.
